My Greatest Moments of 2010

As we rapidly approach 2011, I would just like to note a few of my favorite and most memorable moments in 2010.  Quite a bit happened both big and small but it all has contributed to a great year.
I announced my pregnancy of my 3rd child Kennedy.  I was both nervous and excited but I took it all in stride.

My mother orchestrated the most fabulous baby shower I could ever want!  That lady is great when it comes to planning, and budgeting and just EVERYTHING really.  It turned out so adorable and I was so grateful for it all.  Plus, look at that cake... Come on now!

My third child Kennedy, was born in June!  It was a whirlwind event because it all happened so quickly.  But she brought the most happiness into all of our lives as a newborn usually does.  Though the sleepless nights at first may have been challenging on Steven and I, we worked as a team and 'somehow' got over that hump!

I resigned from my job :-(  Though it was a hard decision, it was made on the anticipation of moving as well as a few other factors.  I had to say bye to a few friends but I took so much with me (in experience, not actual items lol).

My love proposed!  This by far was the most shocking and exciting moment for me this year.  As we start the new year, wedding planning is definitely on the forefront.

The Candy Shop was opened!  And, though this is all very new I was excited to embark on this journey with you guys.  I hope you all stay around for the experience and to enjoy it with me.

Happy New Year's dolls!

"Nene Leakes Pink" (Nail Polish)

I am a guilty watcher of Real Housewives of Atlanta and recently Nene Leakes has been wearing this pink nail polish on the show that I am loving.
You can sort of see it in the picture above.  But I have been on this serious search for that color pink.  I mean all over the place!  Below are some of the shades I went through trying to find it and as you glance from pink to pink you may think one looks exactly like the other but they are in fact different shades!  This search has driven me crazy but I think I have narrowed it down to Essie's "Forget Me Nots".  The other pinks I do love and I will probably wear them throughout the spring and summer for sure.  Anyways, take a look and see the madness I went through just to find the perfect pink!

Dear Future Hair

Recently, #DearFutureHusband/Wife has been a huge trending topic on Twitter that I have loved.  Well, with me being on a journey for healthy long hair I decided to do a spin on that topic and write a note to my future hair!  This can either be very corny or very cute, or both! Lol.

As I look in the past and what we've been through, I realized how many storms you have weathered with me.  For being so loyal and staying strong and with me, I have not been too nice to you.  Growing up you were cared for by my grandmother but I couldn't handle you in your natural state on my own so I changed your composition with a relaxer.  Through high school things became tough on you with all the coloring and cutting.  While I treated you to a day at the salon every once in a while, even they were not too forgiving.  Well with all the blow drying and heat I might as well had been abusing you myself!  Then, my first year of college came and it was just you and me, me and you.  For the first time in a long time I paid you the attention you needed but not because you needed it, more because you became my identity.  I wanted beautiful flowing hair to show off, you becoming healthy was just a by product.  You grew so long and remained gorgeously healthy through my first pregnancy.  But with so much stress of handling a new family, moving away from the only family I knew and living on my own in Maine, you were bound to suffer right along with me.  Then came the pregnancy of my second child so soon and I did something that I still regret to this day.  I cut you all off and had no idea how to handle or style you.  So for months you were dry, brittle and easily put, not cute.  But you had my back, and you grew back... quite quick actually.  As I went through my emotionally roller coasters, you were always the first thing I felt needed to change.  When in actuality, there was so much inside of me that needed to change instead.  I cut you into the most adorable style and for the first time in a long time, I appreciated you.  I cared for you the way you needed to be but I still wasn't in tune with your true needs and wants.  And as the years have passed by it brings us to this current day looking forward.

#DearFutureHair I want to change my behavior towards you but that's only something that we can see with time.  I am doing my research and changing my  habits so that we can continue to have a great relationship together.  I am doing this for you, not for me which is something that has not happened enough in the past.  I want to grow old with you, not without you.  I want you to exude the happiness I feel on the inside day in and day out.  We have so many more journeys to embark on together including the day of my wedding.

#DearFutureHair there's so much more to come.

Product Review: Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque

In a previous post I introduced myself to a hair care line being sold at Target called Shea Moisture. Well, I tried the one product (Conditioning Curl & Style Milk) which I loved so I couldn't wait to try other products from the line! I was finally able to get my hands on the Deep Treatment Masque which was the top product I wanted to try.

Me so excited about trying out the masque
Unfortunately I was highly disappointed!! The product did nothing to soften my hair and in fact made it hard and brittle. My hair broke off every which way even after using a generous amount of my leave-in conditioner. I am highly disappointed and do not recommend this particular product from the line to anyone. I will be heading to my favorite Great Clips ASAP to have my hair trimmed after that catastrophe.

Okay, I know I'm not the only one super excited about this new show!  I love all things Kardashian... I love their original show, the Miami spin off and I'm sure this spin off won't let me down either.  I am excited to see how they adjust their fashion to New York.  We all know, they are quite fashionable and I love everything they wear.  I will say, I do not like their line they have for QVC... It looks very cheap and not chic at all.  Nevertheless, this show starts up on January 23rd at 10PM EST and I will be front and center!  Kim is single in the city and Kourt will be the cute little momma we all love and adore.  My one guilty pleasure... Scott Dissick!  I just love to hate that guy and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

I wonder what the theme song for the show will be because "I'm in Miami Trick" by LMFAO soared to popularity after being the theme song for Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami.  All these questions, no answers and tons of anxiety!!!!!  Bring it Kim and Kourtney, I simply can't wait anymore.

Review: Chip Resistant Top Coats

I've been on a never ending search for a great chip resistant top coat for my nails.  Its highly disappointing to spend an hour doing your nails and an hour doing nothing while your nails dry to just have them all chipped the very next day.  Unfortunately, even with my favorite brands Orly and OPI, I have not found anything that works for more than 24 hours which is ridiculous to me!

WON'T CHIP- Orly Chip Resistant Top Coat

This top coat is fairly thick and goes on very smoothly.  Unfortunately, that's where it stops.  After doing my nails at 10 pm... I woke up the next morning noticing some of the nail polish chipping already!  The next time I used two coats but didn't see much of a difference.  For the cost and brand, I am highly disappointed in this product.  Save your money with this one...

CHIP SKIP- OPI Nail lacquer chip preventor

I heard about this chip preventor in magazines and online so I decided to give it a try.  What I didn't know was that this isn't a top coat.  It is actually suppose to be applied to the bare nail and create a better adhesive bond for the nail polish to the nail.  This is where my biggest problem lies with this particular product.  Many people apply a nail strengthener or bonder to their nails prior to the polish application to create a smoother surface.  So applying OPI's Chip Skip to a 'bare' nail is really impossible if you want the best finish.  I attempted to apply this on top of my nail strengthener before the actual polish but it didn't seem to work as the polish began to chip the next day.  With such a strong name in the nail cosmetic business, you would think OPI would would come out with a top coat already.  Again, keep your money in your pocket with this product.

Review: Shea Moisture Hair Products from Target

Product Image Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Conditioning Milk - 8 oz.
Over the weekend, I stopped in Target (pronounced tar-jay ;-)) to pick up some wrapping paper and such.  Well I noticed they have a haircare line being sold there called Shea Moisture.  It seems to be geared towards Ethnic Women with Natural hair or Curly hair, or both!  While looking through the ingredients I noticed the FIRST few ingredients were Water, Coconut oil, Silk protein and Essential oil blend.  For the price and size of the products, I found this to be amazing!  For those who are not familiar with reading the ingredients on products, they are normally listed in the order in which the product contains most of.  So, for example, a product which lists Mineral Oil (which is not good for our hair) to be the first or second ingredient, this means that most of that product is Mineral Oil.  If you are looking for a product that contains Coconut Oil but Coconut Oil is second to last in a list of 20 ingredients, you probably should look elsewhere.  That particular product contains hardly any coconut oil for the most part!  But I digress... ( I tend to do that a lot! Lol)

The product I decided to try was the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Conditioning Milk.  Some may be hesitant to try this product because of the word 'curl' in the title.  It doesn't necessarily mean that it will make your hair curly unless specified but rather that it is geared towards women with curly hair.  This is where knowing your products comes in handy!  Most products geared toward people with curly hair are made to be creamy but light because people with curly hair want soft bouncy curls, not hard weighed down hair!  For me, this product is perfect for my hair which is not very thick.  Most moisturizers tend to weigh my hair down so I often moisturize with a liquid leave-in conditioner.  Well, after trying this product...  I LOVE IT!!  Its super light, not heavy at all and the smell is delicious!  My hair felt very soft and moisturized after using.  This has definitely become my new Moisturizing product in my regimen.

I simply can't wait to try out the other products in this amazing line.  My goal is to try out the Deep Treatment Masque next.  If you've tried these products or try them out in the future please let us know how well they worked for you!

Natural Hair Styles Are Not For Me...

So over the weekend I wanted to try a hairstyle that required no heat whatsoever.  After washing my hair, I ended up doing some double stranded twist into Bantu knots.  I figured I would get some really nice curly locks but boy, when they say be careful what you wish for they mean it! Lol.  I ended up looking like curly sue and I didn't like it one bit.
The next day I pinned it up into a bun which was okay but i just didn't like the look on me.  Plus my hair seemed very coarse and not soft.  One thing I have noticed about my hair, it does not air dry very well into styles.  No matter what product I use or how much I moisturize, my hair tends to become very hard when I air dry.

Needless to say, I resumed my Sunday haircare routine adding in a pre-shampoo treatment to make sure my locks were really conditioned.  Of course, the outcome was what I was use to and in fact my hair seemed healthier than before!  Could have been the pre-shampoo treatment, I'm not quite sure.

Have you tried a style out that you absolutely could not stand?  Did you stick it out or wash it out?!  Comment below if you want to share.

'Nail' Your Festive Look

So the holidays are here and I'm sure everyone (but me) has a Christmas Party or two to attend.  You probably don't want to throw on a cable knit sweater with a big ole' Christmas tree on it but there are other ways to be creatively festive.  My favorite way this year is to wear my favorite red nail polish!  For me, that's Haute Red by Orly.  Not only do you look like you're in the holiday spirit but Reds are SOOO in this season!  You get to accomplish two things at once, and I definitely like multitasking!  So go search in your arsenal of nail polishes and look for that head turning red that you feel suits you best.  Remember, try to keep it bright... Christmas red isn't burgundy!  You won't be walking around in that tacky holiday sweater but believe me, those red nails WILL get noticed!  Happy Holidays!

Sweet as Candy: Wet n'Wild Eye Palette Review

Wet N' Wild Eye Shadow Trio Sweet As Candy 381
I recently came across this eyeshadow palette by Wet n'Wild coincidentally named "Sweet as Candy"!!  Of course I just HAD to pick it up and review it here on my blog "Sweet as Candy"! Lol... I was really all too excited about this but I do feel I had good enough reason to be.  Well, the shadows are jam packed with shimmer which I'm not a fan of for the entire eye but I wanted to do a fair review on the entire palette.  In addition, the palette is not highly pigmented so I do suggest using your favorite eye primer with this. The pink included is very very pale and no matter how much I tried to layer on, it just would not brighten up.  All in all, the palette is a cute neutral look and I could see it being okay to even wear to work.  And at just $2.99, I guess I can't be too picky!!

Review of New Music Tuesday... On Friday!

I know this is a bit late but I definitely need to review some of this past Tuesday's new music that was released.  Two albums that stand out to me are Dirty Money's 'Last Train to Paris' and Ciara's 'Basic Instinct'.
Starting off with 'Last Train to Paris'... This album by far may be the best album of the year.  For me, they came out of left field with this.  With heavy hitters like Rick Ross, Usher, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown all on this album its no wonder why its on repeat in my iPod!  The sound is definitely a twist from what you ordinarily would hear on the radio these days.  Songs like 'Your Love' featuring Trey Songz has that 90's R&B music feel to it... That real feel good music.  I will have to say that some songs hardly sound like they're featuring an artist and more like its their song (for example: Looking for Love feat. Usher).  Nevertheless, this album is a must have and gets 5 stars on my radio.

On to 'Basic Instinct' from the oh so seductive and talented Ciara.  This album is very easy listening but I can't say it stands out in any way.  While you can listen to it straight through without skipping songs, Ciara seems to be remaining in her comfort zone.  From one song to the next, they are the same ole' songs we can expect from Ciara.  This album isn't bad but its not great so it gets 3 1/2 stars on my radio.

Are You a Cold Weather Cutie?

It has become freakishly cold for this time of the year.  It even snowed today and it made me realize I needed to cover my cold weather fashion post!  I know once the cold weather hits, its very tempting to throw on the sweats, wrap the scarf around the face and keep it moving... cute goes out the window!  But, it doesn't necessarily have to.  Here are some items that will keep you warm while looking fabulous all at the same time...

It may not be in style to wear your UGGs with shorts anymore but they are still the most popular boot for the season.  And with their recent twist on the original, they have the added glam!  At $170 a pair, I can see why Oprah named them one of her favorite things.

Who wants to spend all that time doing your hair in the morning to just mess it up with your good ole winter hat?!?!  I know I don't!  One of my favorite winter accessories would have to be ear muffs!  And with these fabulous ears muff from Juicy Couture, you'll arrive to work with your hair just the way you intended... No hat hair here!

Text messages don't stop coming in because its cold!!  With these pretties, you can keep your hands warm while leaving your fingers easily accessible to update your Facebook status.  On sale at American Eagle with a price tag of just $14.50 :-)

Additional View One
Additional View OneLast but not least, bring it all together with your most important winter asset... your COAT!  Generally, we tend to throw on whatever keeps us warmest.  But lets not forget, Paparazzi never sleeps... You wouldn't wanna get caught on the cover of OK! Magazine in your lime green bomber jacket would you?!  Alright, maybe I'm being a little extreme but seriously, keep it cute!  Throw on this chic Guess pea coat and hit the streets with confidence.  This is another steal, currently on sale for just $118 (was $198).

Lincoln Park After Dark

I  first heard about this OPI shade from my BFF Crystal who absolutely loves it!  Then as I was reading Kardashian Konfidential I found out that it was also one of Khloe's favorite colors as well.  Since I love all things Kardashian, I definitely had to try it out for myself.  The last really dark color I tried out was black and I hated it.  Which is why it has taken me so long to go get OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark. Lucky, I went when I did because it was the last one on the shelf at my local Trade Secret.  But this comes at no surprise to me because the shade is one of OPI's top selling of all time!  After testing it out, I absolutely love it.  It is the perfect dark shade but it doesn't have the harsh matte black finish that I didn't like before.  The super dark plum is chic and sophisticated yet very trendy.  Not a fan of black but want to try out the uber popular dark nail?  Definitely give Lincoln Park After Dark a try... Fo Sho! Lol

Hidden Secret Uncovered- Coconut Oil

After asking a friend of mine on Facebook what her hair care regime was, I took interest in one ingredient that stuck out to me... Coconut oil.  Now, I've heard of the benefits of using all natural oils on your hair but I've never even heard of Coconut Oil!  So, after talking with her I continued to do some research on it before going out to buy it.  Everyone on the Internet was raving about the benefits of Coconut Oil for your hair.  My first thought was "How could this be? I've never even heard of Coconut Oil!!".  Turns out, Coconut Oil is one of the only oils, if not THE only oil, that can penetrate the hair shaft!  As soon as I found this out I knew I had to try it.  Well while roaming the organic aisle in Kroger, I came across a jar and decided to pick it up.  Obviously, I was anxious to try it so I almost immediately ran into the bathroom and opened the jar.  I was sort of confused at first though because I wasn't sure if I was suppose to melt this over heat or in the microwave everyday for use since it is solid!  I started scraping at it just to smell it and found that as I touched it, it melted immediately.  So I scraped a large portion out into my hand and rubbed my hands together.  It melted immediately just using my body heat.  Its very light, much lighter than any other oil I've ever used.  I sprayed my hair with my KMS Leave-In Conditioner and then proceeded to seal using the coconut oil.  I literally noticed a difference in texture and softness of my  hair within a matter of minutes.  I pin-curled my hair and when I woke up this morning my hair was ridiculously (in a good way) soft! My ends look so healthy and nourished yet my hair is still light and fluffy how I like it.  I am definitely going to continue using this to seal as well as for oil treatments after washing.  And, for $8.99 per 160z jar, its an incredible deal!  This gets 5 stars in my book!!

My Hair Challenge

Recently I have become obsessed with taking better care of my hair so that it can grow to a good length!  For about 2 years I rocked the cutest cut that I loved but then in August 2009 I decided to start growing it out.

When I decided to start growing it out in August 2009, it was about chin length.

By December 2009, it had reached shoulder length! Keep in my mind I found out I was pregnant in October.  So the extra vitamins and pregnancy hormones may  have had something to do with my success.

In May of 2010 I got bored but also my hair growth had stalled.  This was before I had done any research into growing my hair out.  If I had I would've found out that when you're hair is shoulder length, its best to keep your hair in protective hairstyles so that the ends don't break against your clothing.  Nonetheless, I decided to get a styled cut which I loved at the time.

Over the summer of 2010, I really didn't maintain my hair like I had been because my baby was here!  I was barely getting sleep, let alone washing and conditioning my hair weekly like I had been.  So by September 2010 my hair was only at shoulder length :-(

Then a month later I went to salon to had them do what I had been holding off for too long... Even out my angled cut I had got back in May.  And, I ended up with a nice even cut but I felt all I had worked on went down the drain!

Right now, my hair is CBL (Collar Bone Length) and I'm hoping to attain APL (Arm Pit Length) by May... Just in time for summer!

My current hair regime isn't solid as I'm still trying to figure out what will work for me.  But a few things I definitely do now are:

1. Keep my hair off my shoulders in a loose updo for most of the week
2. Deep Condition once a week
3. Protein treatment every other week (until I no longer need to and then I will drop down to once a month)

I'm experimenting with different moisturizing and sealing treatments.  Right now what works for me is spraying my hair at night with my KMS Leave-In conditioner and sealing with Kemi Oil.  I am trying to get my hands on some coconut oil from Vitamin Shoppe but until then what I have will have to do.  I will try to update you guys as the months go on so you can see the difference in length.  As well, if I change up my hair care regimen and find awesome new products, I will review those.  Please check back often because I am big on trying out new products which I will definitely start reviewing on here.

Do you have your own story?  Please share your struggle (or success :-)) in the comment section.  What's your hair care regimen?  And, do you have products that you swear by?

Until next time..... Muah!
