Hair Journey Update

I know it has been forever since I updated my blog on my hair journey that I started towards the end of last year. Truth is, there have been quite a bit of challenges in both my hair journey and my life. I've tried MANY products... Some I loved, some I returned! But overall, I am happy with my results so far. I am not one for walking around looking a hot mess because I expect people to know I'm on a journey for healthier hair! So, I wash my hair when needed which is usually once a week. I flat iron my hair just about once a week... Sometimes every two weeks. I relax my hair every 8-10 weeks religiously. I love to bun and I love twist outs. I love the look of fresh cut healthy hair so I trim my hair immediately when its needed (usually every 2 months). I did not take the drastic road of stretching my relaxers, no manipulation and other forms of hair care because it simply was not for me. I take into consideration that I do my own hair weekly and have not been to a salon in over a decade. This means that I am entitled to buy expensive hair products and treatments every now and then. The cost of a $50 hair treatment is priceless when I've been doing my own hair since I was 15 years old! Now on to the pictures!

Where I started (October 2010)

Where I'm at currently

Twists-Outs (Early On)
Products I've Been Using Religiously:

Optimum Relaxer (I've used this since I first relaxed my hair at 15 years old)
It's a 10 Keratin Leave-In
Coconut Oil
Jojoba Oil
Redken Soft Shampoo
Kenra Deep Conditioner
Joico Moisture Balm
Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair- NEW
Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave-In (as a moisturizer)- NEW
Keratin Complex Infusion Therapy Deep Conditioner (to stop breakage)- NEW
Keratin Complex Intense Rx (Leave-In)- NEW

Well that's it for my update. As for the products, I obviously do not use all these products EVERY time I wash my hair... That would just be ridiculous! I use 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner and 1-2 leave-ins each time I wash my hair. It takes me a total of 1 hour to do my hair from start to finish. Done are the days of me taking a whole day or even 2 of my weekend to do my hair. While I do give it more TLC than before, I can not let it consume me. Anyways, thanks for checking back on my journey and I hope you all having success in yours as well! Toodles.

Aveda Black Malva

Here are some pics after I tried out Aveda's Black Malva. I'm am simply in love! I went for this particular product because of it's all natural products and ingredients! This stuff is actually what they call a "color conditioner"! Who would have thought right. Anyways if you're trying to go dark or dark(er) try this stuff before using any harmful chemicals.

New MAC Lippie!!

So, yes I was a sucker for MAC's new line and had to pick up a few things. Of those items was this incredible shade 'Musky Amethyst' that I had to have once I tried it on. It's a deep plum and will work well on light, medium or dark skin tones I think. It's definitely going to be a popular shade come Fall! I will update with my other goodies later dollz. Toodles.

I have finally accomplished a nice curly style without barely any hassle! In the past, I have tried to Bantu twist and other things on wet hair but last night was so random. I was suppose to wash my hair and was feeling really lazy. I didn't want to pull my hair into a pony tail so I sectioned my hair off into four sections, sprayed with a water/conditioner mix and twisted my hair back. I didn't apply any oil or product because I had done so that morning. This was the result:

This literally took me all of 2 minutes to accomplish!! I slept with it in twists overnight and carefully undid them in the morning. I didn't have any perm rods to roll the ends so I knew I may have some stragglies, lol. This was the outcome:

Needless to say I'm pleased with the results and will be using this a staple style for the rest of the summer. Seeing as this was just the first try, I am hoping to get better waves/curls as I learn different techniques. I am so loving big hair and curls this summer and now I don't have to feel left out <3 Muah. Toodles.

Girl About Town #MAC

Don't know where it's been all my life but IN LOVE is all I can say. Against my slightly tanned skin this color just pops! And, believe me... There's a 'wrong' pop and a 'right' pop. This is mOsT definitely the RIGHT pop! Lol. Look and adore dolls. Muah.

On My Face:

Bobby Brown Tinted Moisturizer
Revlon ColorStay Bronzer/Highlighter
MAC Overdyed Blush
MAC Girl About Town Lipstick

When it rains it POURS!

So as many of you know, I am in the process of planning my wedding AND now moving into a new home. I have been so stressed on the low it's ridiculous. On top of that, I can't relieve my stress by shopping because we're buckling down with the extra expense incurred from moving into a larger home. On one end, I am very thankful to be able to have all these life changing events but on the other hand, it's very stressful!! Lol. What are some better ways to relax that don't require shopping or be tempted to shop?!

P.S: My fiancé also needs a new car as his current one has suddenly gone downhill.

I'll just go ahead and check myself in now! Lol

Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer + MAC Overdyed Blush Review

When summer time hits everyone automatically runs for the golds and bronzed look when it comes to make-up. I must admit, that is one of my favorite summer faces but I have really been trying to step out of my comfort zone. While oranges, browns and golds may look magnificent against my skin (a little self flattery never hurts, lol), there are plenty of other colors that look quite nice as well. Currently I am working on pinks for the summer. At the time, when I went to the MAC counter (yes, I am a MAC whore) they had this pretty little color called Overdyed. Whether you apply very little or a whole lotta, it will take you from looking sweet to evening drama in seconds. One or two swipes for a nice sweet spring look... Maybe about 4 swipes for that evening drama. Now the amount you need will also depend on the palette its being applied on. On bare skin, no primer or foundation you will probably need to apply more in order to achieve the color you desire. Personally, I am in love with Bobbi Brown's Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer. I started using this one about 2 weeks ago after a recommendation from a friend. My MAC Studio Tint Moisturizer was making me very oily by the middle of the day and it dawned on me that its not oil-free. Us oily gals know that almost all skin products we use MUST be oil-free in order for them to last throughout the day.

Above is a picture I took with me wearing the MAC Studio Tint. The skin looks fabulous but even in this picture (which was taken only 2 hours after applying my face for the day) you can start to see the "glow" or accumulation of oiil on my skin.

In the picture above, I was wearing the Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer. Now there is a HUGE difference but mainly because I am not wearing mascara or gloss. If you're able to look past that then you can see my face lacks the oily sheen that I had with the MAC Tinted Moisturizer. Also, in the second picture I have a few swipes of my MAC Overdyed blush. You likey? There have been days that I have done a more dramatic look with the Overdyed blush but today, this is all I had time for. Clearly, I didn't even have time to apply mascara!

So, I just wanted to update you guys on a few new products I've tried out. I think this are definitely summer keepers as I tend to get LOTS of compliments when I wear them! And, what girl doesn't like compliments?! Until next time... Toodles <3

"Smart enough to make these millions, strong enough to bear the children... Then get back to business!" -Beyonce

The title for this post was taken from Beyonce's "Run the World" single. It's actually my favorite line from the entire song because it does sum up many of the strong women in my life. While I have been slack in making posts to my blog, it has only come in light of the many other blessings in my life right now. Working a full-time job, taking care of my family, planning my wedding and making a move to a new home! With summer on our heels, I know I owe you guys some good material! So, I promise at least one post per day to the blog for the next two weeks... Even if I'm doing it at 1 in the morning!!

Loving all things Marc by Marc Jacobs

I have become very fond of all things Marc by Marc Jacobs. It reminds of a Saturday in New York City to be really honest. Whether you're throwing on a chic dress or jeans with a pair of killer wedges, you're sure to make statement without even trying. For a girl whose claim to fame is a pair of jeans and a tee... Pairing with the right shoes, blazer or sweater is uber important. Marc by Marc Jacobs allows you to dress up that casual Saturday outfit and hit the city in a matter of minutes. I've noted some of my favorites from the Spring and Summer collection.

The likelihood of me getting a lot of the items on my board are pretty slim given my current budget! But, hey a girl can wish can't she?! Don't let me find any of the shoes on clearance anywhere because I am definitely on the edge as we speak! Lol! Anyways, going back to window shopping online dolls... toddles :-)

OOTD: Working with Navy

So, I threw this outfit together this morning and I absolutely love it. I had been trying to piece it together for about a week now but something was always in the way. Whether the shirt was in the laundry or the sweater had just been worn... It just wouldn't work out. Well, it is everything I expected it to be so the wait was well worth it :-)

T-shirt: The Limited
Sweater: The Gap
Belt: The Limited
Skirt: The Limited
Boots: Miz Mooz

I felt soooo New Yorkish in this outfit today. I hope you guys like it as well. Back to work now. Toodles!

Prepping for Spring

With Spring being right around the corner, I am already starting to make small changes in hair, skin, wardrobe and make-up. We all understand that the warmer weather brings about a slew of changes for us women. I haven't dug into my wardrobe changes much so we will hold off on that for now.

HAIR. This year during the warmer months, I will be wearing a lot of twist outs and braid outs. I don't want to use much heat if any at all. In addition, I will likely move to washing my hair twice a week as opposed to just once. The second wash, which will probably be on Wednesday, will likely be a co-wash.

SKIN. I have been using my Clarisonic as you guys know and I am still in the honeymoon phase! I have no bad thoughts about it at all. My skin has drastically changed and improved since starting to use it. I took a trip to Sephora to look for an oil-free moisturizer and was given a few samples to try out. Currently, I use Hope in a Jar but for us oily women, we definitely need oil-free moisturizers... ESPECIALLY, in the summer! So, the samples they gave me were...
Hope Oil-Free SPF

Ultra-Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew™

Oil-Free Daily Hydration SPF 15

I used the DDF Moisturizer today and loved it. I also received an unusual amount of compliments about how great my skin looked. Could've been a coincidence, might've been the moisturizer... Who knows! Lol.

MAKE-UP. I have already made one too many MAC counter trips in the past month. I have been trying to really lighten up on the make-up front with the warmer weather coming. I cannot stand wearing thick foundation in hot weather... "I'm melting!!!!!" is all I can think about! Lol. So far I have purchased my Studio Tint which is a tinted moisturizer. Its been lovely feeling my skin breathe and not be so suffocated under my MUFE Mat Velvet. In addition to the Studio Tint, here are the other items I've picked up...

NARS Hollywoodland Soft Touch Pencil
Deep Throat
Nars Deep Throat Blush

NARS Orgasm Illuminator

Viva Glam Gaga Lipglass
MAC Viva Glam Lady Gaga
These items have me feeling all ready for the summer. I actually wore most of these items today with the exception of the NARS Orgasm Illuminator. I loved this look and it took all of 5 minutes to put together.

This is really the look I want to maintain throughout the summer. Its clean, fresh yet sexy. The best part is the beauty I see in the mirror isn't created by heavy foundation, but rather its actually me and my skin :-) I don't think I can sing enough praises about the Clarisonic. Anywho, as we get closer to summer I will update with even more products including clothing! Can't wait! Til next time... Toodles!!
