Oil Control

One of my biggest flaws (IMO) is the oily skin on my face. It drives me crazy because I love wearing makeup and by the end of the day my makeup is just sliding off my face. Believe me, it is so not a cute look! Not only that, but the shine is ridiculous! I mean, you can definitely see me coming a mile away and may need to put on shades the closer I get.

Recently, I tried out an oil control lotion from MAC which worked great for the first 5 hours or so but after those 5 hours it was all downhill from there! When I leave the house on a normal day this is how I look:

When I return home, this is how my face looks or worse:

It is SO frustrating but I am really trying to figure this out. One of my friends told me that using the MUFE HD may not be the best for my oily skin. Which is what I've been using. The issue I have with matte foundations is that they make you look ashy sometimes. I hate that dry ashy look! I want a fresh, moisturized, and dewy look when I'm done applying my foundation. Do you have the same issue or have any suggestions?!

Free to Blog Away!!

For the longest my fiancee and I have been sharing a computer. Well he's taking online classes for his Masters degree now and I, well I just like being on the computer to browse the Internet and such. Since I've started my blog we have definitely been arguing over the one computer more frequently! I knew for sure by the end of next year I needed to get my own computer. My biggest issue was I don't actually "need" a computer for actual 'work' per say. So I had a hard time coming to grips on buying a $600+ computer just to browse the Internet and apply for jobs! My happy medium? Buying an iPad! So far I think it has been a great idea but we shall see. I have lost a few features on Blogger because of the iPad software not being compatible I guess. But overall, it's convenience is outstanding. I did buy it directly from the Apple store so should I have a change of heart, I can return the product without any "restocking fees" that Best Buy likes to tack on! I know... Smart cookie right?! Lol. I will let you guys know if I stick with it or take it back. Right now it's definitely love at first sight!

Typed on my new iPad!

**UPDATE** I recently came across an app called BlogPress that gave me all my Blogger features back. In addition, it was on sale for $2.99 from $4.99!! I am literally head over heels right now :-D

Read With Me

Recently, I have wanted to get back into reading again.  I use to love to pick up a good book and read but that seems to have been ages ago.  I think between children, college and my love life I just didn't have the time anymore.  I can't say that I have a ton of time on my hands now but I really just miss reading a really good book.  You know, those books that you have a hard time putting down and every chance you get you're trying to read a little more!  Man,  I truly do miss that so in addition to ALL the other things I want to start doing (healthier eating habits, working out, better hair care), I would also like to start reading books again.  This past weekend I started on my journey with a book called A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown.  So far it has been a good read in the sense that when I'm reading I don't get bored and eagerly want to get on to the next page.  My only problem is myself.  Being that reading books wasn't in my daily routine, I have to constantly remind myself to pick up the book instead of jumping on the computer or turning on the television.  I'm sure with time I will definitely gain some good reading habits.

In saying all of this, I have been thinking about starting a book club.  I'm not sure if anyone would be interested but it would be a great way to read some really good books and have people to discuss it with.  I will be checking out both the New York Times Best Sellers list and Oprah's Book Club for some ideas.  In addition, if you know of any books you would like to suggest please let me know.  I just thought this could be really fun and get us adults back into reading 'books' again.  Toodles.

Date Night A.K.A Save your relationship night!

So, my hunny and I were able to slip out the door on a date this past Friday night and boy did we need it.  I wouldn't say we have been arguing a bunch or anything but our lives are based around our children.  We wake up and go to sleep with children (sometimes literally when Kennedy sleeps with us! lol).  So, occasionally we treat ourselves to a night out without ANY children.  This allows for us to have adult conversation without having to press the pause button or use children appropriate language! Lol.  One thing I have noticed is that when we finally do get a moment to ourselves is when we get into mini arguments.  We don't like to argue around the kids and many times one of us will just throw in the towel... usually the one who's wrong (uhhummm... Steven).  But, when we are alone we tend to get into small tisks that are just pointless and then when I realize we are arguing on our date night it pisses me off even more.  Usually, this alone will get me to end the argument.  Shoot, I don't wait no month plus some to go on a date just spend it all arguing... Oh no sireee!  I definitely looked too cute for all of that on Friday night!

I just wanted to post really quick about my love life which I don't do often (aside from wedding details).  We have come very far and it hasn't been an easy journey but our relationship IS what it's cracked up to be!  At least right now it is and I plan on working very hard to keep it that way. :-)  Toodles.

VO5 Moisture Milks Conditioner- Review

Moisture Milks Strawberries & Cream Conditioner by Alberto VO5 for Unisex - 15 oz Conditioner

This is yet another product I have heard about through the grapevine that I decided to try out myself.  I must admit, I am slightly addicted now.  I first started using this to do a co-wash every  now and then but now I seem to co-wash more often.  If my hair feels like it has a lot of build up, then I will use shampoo the first wash and then use this VO5 Conditioner for the 2nd and 3rd wash (for a total of 3 washes).  This stuff makes your hair feel incredible and at just .79 cents for a bottle you don't feel guilty about using too much.  You know how some conditioners feel great when they are in your hair but then once you rinse them out, your hair has a completely different (not so soft) texture??!!  Well, this won't do that at all.  It makes your hair super soft and tangle free when its in and still very soft once its rinsed out.  I thought it was just me but my friend Crystal started using it and says she's addicted to co-washing as well now!  While she and I do have different textured hair, we both use relaxers so please keep that in mind.

I have not used this as my main conditioner after washing and I don't plan on it as I have other staples that I would rather use.  But, for the purpose in which I use it, it works phenomenally!  In addition, VO5 has a number of different fragrances so you don't have to get this specific one (pictured above).  My favorite is actually the Passion Fruit one so I would suggest trying them all out to see which one you fall in love with!  Toodles!

Wedding Date Set!

So as this week has gone on, I have been able to narrow down a date for our wedding! Yaaaay... I know you guys are as excited as I am. Lol.  We have two venues that we are looking to book for the wedding and both are fitting for the occasion.  We have decided to stay with the small and intimate wedding that we talked about.  Having a large lavish wedding is just not our idea of a dream wedding.  We want our closest family and friends to come and enjoy our day with us, which actually is quite a bit of people and fun on its own!

As of right now, our two options are the Hilton Garden Inn in the Virginia Beach Town Center or the Courtyard Marriott on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.  Both properties are nice and cozy and definitely give off that feel as soon as you walk in the door.  This was very important to me.  I didn't want to feel like a small fish in a big sea.  I wanted a venue to fit our size and feel that we were going for.  If we were to have it at the Hilton Garden Inn we could do wedding day pictures in the Town center which could turn out super chic.  The cobble stone streets and cozy town back drop could look lovely for our pictures.  As well, with the Courtyard Marriott on the Oceanfront, we would have some great beach pictures.  It is Virginia Beach after all!

I know what you're thinking... When is the date already!! Lol... We have settled on February 18, 2012.  Looks like we will get to have our Romantic wedding after all.  I have so many things already picked out and ideas are just flying through my mind left and right.  My mom and biff Crystal keep my head from spinning out of control!  They give the 'ye' or 'nay' on all my over the top ideas.  Recently, we have actually all been on the same page though and that's really whats making it all come together quite nice.  Gotta love having those helpers who are just as into the planning and creating as you are.

I hope to share my ideas and frustrations with you guys as I push forward with all the planning of our wedding.  And, I definitely encourage all ideas and opinions if you have any.  Toodles.

Making It All Balance

With all the challenges and goals I have made for myself, sometimes it feels like I just don't have time for it all.  My hair challenge by far has seemed very time consuming in comparison to how much time I use to spend on my hair.  Now, I have incorporated my weight challenge and that for sure is harder than I thought.  For those of you that don't know, I have a 7 year old daughter named Taylor, a 5 year old son named Gregory and a 7 month old daughter named Kennedy.  I like to think I have this thing down pat but that is so far from true!  I'm like every other "glammy mommy"... I'm lucky if I get my mascara and lip gloss on before heading out the door!  My schedule is jam packed from beginning to end and I will be resuming working full time very soon.  One thing that has helped me immensely has been taking a vitamin daily.  I have noticed a real increase in energy since I started taking my vitamin daily so I will continue doing that.  Of course, I wish I had MONEY MONEY and could afford some help whether it be in the form of a nanny or 'mother's helper'.  Some days, I am being pulled in so many directions that I just wanna scream!!  But, I know when my kids look back they will remember an active mother in their life.  Here's a peek into my daily schedule:

6:50 AM: Wake Taylor Up For School
7:15 AM: Do Taylor's Hair and Make Her Breakfast
7:30 AM: Steven Takes Taylor to the Bus Stop (I refuse to do early morning bus duty! Lol)
8:30 AM: Kennedy Wakes Up
9:00 AM: Make Gregory and Kennedy Breakfast
10:50 AM: Take Gregory to the Bus Stop
12:00 PM: Gym Workout (Not daily)
2:30 PM: Pick Taylor and Gregory Up at the Bus Stop
3:00 PM: Take Gregory and Taylor to Play Date (Not Daily)
5:30 PM: Return Home/ Start Making Dinner
6:00 PM: Steven Comes Home
6:30 PM: Dinner Time
7:30 PM: Bath Time for Kids
8:30 PM: Feed Kennedy her Last Meal and Bottle
9:00 PM: Bed Time for Kids
12:00 AM- 5:00 AM: Get Up to Feed Kennedy Randomly Throughout the Night!
** Me Time For the Rest of the Night!!**

So, yes, it is quite overwhelming to think I am going to incorporate working full time into this schedule.  Of course, it varies from day to day depending on different things.  Sometimes, Taylor gets her hair done... Sometimes Gregory gets his hair cut.  Then, they will all begin swimming lessons very shortly so that too will take up a time slot during the day.  For all you mothers out there who have been doing it for years or are currently doing and have that 'overwhelmed' feeling from time to time, you are not alone!  Take it day to day and most importantly take that time out for yourself that you need.  Today, that meant me taking a one hour nap when Steven got home from work.  Taking time for yourself doesn't necessarily mean spending, splurging or pampering yourself but it could mean a nice bubble bath or quiet time in your room with a book.  Whatever it is for you, do what you need to do to make it all balance.

It's a 10: Deep Conditioner and Leave-In Conditioner Review

I was finally able to grab my It's A 10 Deep Conditioner and Leave-In Conditioner recently.  I have been dying to try both of these items out since everyone seems to be raving about them!  Its very seldom you see a product have 5 out of 5 stars or a 100% in reviews on multiple hair care websites.  I figured there had to be something to this madness.  And, boy is there!  Starting off with the Deep Conditioner... This stuff immediately (and I do mean immediately) changes the texture of your hair.  I don't know how else to describe besides maybe by saying the texture of freshly relaxed hair with conditioner on top of that! Lol.  Of course, I sat under the dryer for abotu 25 minutes and when it came time to wash out, I was able to run my fingers through my hair with NO resistance or tangles.  Moving on to the It's A 10 Leave-In Conditioner.  This product is just as good as its fellow colleagues of the It's A 10 line!  In the bottle, its a very thick and creamy conditioner but it sprays out very fine and evenly.  I left it on my hair for about a minute before actually combing my hair and really it was sublime.  Both products have a great smell to it, not too overwhelming at all.  These items will definitely become staples in my hair care regimen and will replace my current leave-in conditioner (Giovanni) and deep conditioner (Kenra).

Deal-wise, these products are definitely on the higher end.  And, unfortunately the store had run out of the smaller bottles of the leave-in so I had to buy the largest size of 10oz which cost me $29.95 (yikes, I know!).  The Deep Conditioner ran me $24.95 for an 8oz jar which is still pretty pricey.  Do I feel the benefits outweigh or equal the cost.  HECK YEA!  And, I don't say that about too many products.  I do not believe that the more you pay, the better you get ALL THE TIME.  But with these products, it is true.  So, I do hope you guys get a chance to try them out because I'm sure glad I did.  I love you Its A 10!!!

Intimate or Lavish?

Lately my mind has been so consumed with wedding planning and already I'm feeling overwhelmed, over budget and under a lot of pressure.  So, the thought of scaling back to a small intimate wedding has been a thought.  I've always dreamed of this huge party with all my family and friends dancing the night away.  But the reality is, we really can't afford exactly what I want!  We are stretching every penny, planning tons of DIY projects and really planning carefully so that we can truly have the wedding of our "dreams".  There are obviously pros and cons to both but I simply can't make up my mind which one I want!  One day, I'm super excited about being to stress less over a small wedding then the next day I'm feeling sort of empty not planning a big wedding.

Intimate Wedding
With a small wedding, I'm afraid I will offend family members who do not get invited.  Then with a large wedding I start getting frustrated that no one has offered to help financially.  As you can see, I'm all over the place with my emotions!!
Large Wedding
So, as of right now I have no idea what I want and that has definitely stalled the wedding planning for now.  I hope to be able to make a final decision by the end of this week.  And, with a Maid of Honor and Mother breathing down my neck, I'm sure I will make that decision soon!

Out of my Purse... Into Yours!

So, I have a few things in my purse that I want to share my review of with you.  Maybe, you'll try it out and it'll make it into your purse... Who knows!

I definitely wasn't sure about Winter Pastel Nail Polish colors but I decided to give them a try.  I bought two Revlon colors about a month ago but had yet to try them.  Well I tried out the Revlon 'Lilac Pastelles' tonight and it actually looks quite nice against my skin tone!

Next thing would be my Nivea 'Soft' Moisturizing Creme.  This stuff feels so great going onto your hands for those cold winter days.  My hands get super dry and ashy looking and this stuff combats it for sure.  One thing I love about it is that it doesn't lie on top of the skin.  Hand moisturizers that don't suck in quickly are so annoying!  Its like you can't touch anything for 10 minutes or you have to wipe your hands off on something which defeats the purpose.  But this Nivea Hand Moisturizer definitely soaks in almost immediately leaving your hands crazy Smooth, just like it states!  You can grab a purse size at your nearest Walgreens.
Last but definitely not least is my Nivea Kiss of Shine Lip Care.  This stuff smells so yummy and goes on THE smoothest!  It gives your lips a nice clear shine with moisturizing that lasts for hours.  And, the stickiness factor that a lot of lip glosses have, this does not have one bit.  This you can also grab at your nearest Walgreens in the same aisle as the Nivea body creme.
Well thats it for this week.  Theres a ton more in my purse that are my staples and must haves but I will review them as time goes on.  It would be a super long post if I reviewed them all now!

My Current Hair Regimen

It just dawned on me that I have not gone into detail on what my current hair regimen was... Shame on me!  Although, this is my current regimen it may be altered as I see fit and my hair needs.  No matter how good a product is rated to be always listen to your own hair.  What works wonders for others may be devastating to your hair.  Right now, I try to keep my hair care as basic as possible (even though it might not seem that way).  So, here it goes:

Shampoo 1X/Week
Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Shampoo, 8.5-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 3)
Condition after Shampoo
Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner - 8.5 oz.
Deep Condition 1X/Week
Kenra Color Maintenance Conditioner Silk Protein Conditioner for Color-Treated Hair Hair Conditioners And Treatments
Leave-In Conditioner (Liquid)
KMS California MoistRepair Leave-In Conditioner (150 ml)
Leave-In Conditioner (Creamy)
Giovanni Cosmetics Conditioner Direct Leave-In
Serum (If using direct heat such as a blow dryer or flat iron)
Cationic Hydration CHI Silk Infusion (select option/size)
Thermal Heat Protectant (If using direct heat such as a blow dryer or flat iron)

Moisturize Ends of Hair (Personally use every other night. Some prefer daily)

Seal with Oil After Moisturizing (Personally use every other night.  Some prefer daily)
Spectrum Naturals - Coconut Oil Organic, 14 oz liquid
Protein Treatment 2X/Month (Right now, I'm doing 3X because my hair truly needs it)
Joico K Pak Deep Penetrating Reconstructor (select option/size)
Hydration (Only After Protein Treatment)
K-PAK Intense Hydrator 8.5 oz (Pack of 2)
Clarifying Shampoo 1X/Month

Current Flat Iron (I adore this flat iron and rave about it to everyone!)

There are a few things that I know for a fact will change up within the next weeks:

I will be trying out a new Deep Conditioner
It's A 10 miracle hair mask 8 fl oz (240 ml)
Trying out a new Leave-In Conditioner (Liquid)
It's a 10 Miracle Leave In Product 10oz
And, splurging on a Huetiful Hair Steamer

Right now my hair has just reached Collar Bone Length (CBL) and it rubs against my shoulders a lot.  I've learned recently in order to prevent breakage on my ends, the best thing for me to do is keep my hair off my shoulders until its past that phase.  This will help me retain more length by preventing breakage.  I am definitely attached by the hip to my flat iron so using less heat has been a TRUE CHALLENGE of mine.  In addition, I have been interviewing with different companies and felt the need to have straight hair.  But, more recently I have been wearing 'French Rolls' or 'Low Buns' to interviews anyways to look more professional.  So, there really is no need to flat iron my hair to achieve either of those styles.  No excuse now right?!  Well we shall see ;-)  I'm not gonna feel bad about the fact I like my hair straight!  Sheesh, thats why I have a relaxer isn't it?! Lol.  But with my wedding approaching I definitely want long beautiful hair of my own for that special day which is my motivation :-)  Last but not least, I cross wrap my hair when its straight and tie down with a silk scarf.  I don't do the traditional wrap because its straining on my edges and I really don't like the way my hair falls as much as with the cross wrap.  In addition I sleep using a silk pillow case for the rough nights that my scarf may slide off.  Thats it really...  Although, it seems like quite a bit.  If you have any questions please feel free to ask in the comments section below.

Please stay tuned in the next few days/ weeks I will be posting videos of how I moisturize and seal, use protective styling and more.  See ya lata dolls!

"Beauty is Pain and Toxic Fumes" -I. Andino

Stated by a beauty addict just like myself, its such a true statement!  After realizing how often I polish my nails (about every 2 days or so), it dawned on me how much fumes I must be inhaling!  Then I finally was able to try out the Seche Vite fast dry no chip topcoat and that stuff has some SERIOUS fumes.  Unfortunately, it does dry super fast and I did not have any chipping unlike with my other no chip lacquers I had purchased.  So, I will put up with the fumes in hopes of not having to polish my nails as frequently :-)  The price is a little on the high side at $9.95 for a .5FL OZ bottle.  I was told when used sparingly, it works best so this will probably make it last a little longer.  It looks like I have finally found a TRUE No Chip Topcoat I can rely on... Thanx Ivy and Crys.

Product: Seche Vite Fast Dry No Chip Topcoat
Rating: 5 Stars
Purchased From: Trade Secret
Price: $9.95
